*Note: This painting has a slight imperfection at the top right where the yellow gouache bled under the tape. However, once it’s framed with mat it will cover over those marks.
This original painting is part of my ‘Summer Brunch’ series which features various food combinations on top of bright, patterned tablecloths. This series was inspired by the food photography of Lauren Rea, an Australian food influencer.
I was challenged to try and capture the flakey pastry in a way that makes it glisten by applying layers of gouache. It only started to pop when I painted the complimentary blue plate underneath to help the golden colours shine.
These pieces make me smile and I hope they bring you joy too.
